Doug Gottlieb tosses chair as UW-Green Bay blows lead late (Video)

University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Phoenix men's basketball coach (and podcast/radio host) Doug Gottlieb tossed a chair after his team blew a late lead and lost Thursday night's Horizon Conference opener against the Robert Morris Colonials.

Green Bay held a 73-62 lead with 3:54 remaining, but Robert Morris rallied to take a 78-77 lead with 22 seconds left in regulation. Green Bay senior guard Justin Allen hit one of two free throws to tie the game at 78 with 16 seconds left, but Robert Morris junior guard Nikolaos Chitikoudis made a layup with 4 seconds remaining to give the Colonials the lead. Allen missed a game-winning 3-point shot attempt at the buzzer.

Understandably, Gottlieb was upset that his team couldn't close out the game. He was heading to the tunnel beneath the stands while players were still shaking hands and found an outlet for his frustration, grabbing a chair and throwing it.

Fortunately, no one else appeared to be nearby, so there was no risk of anyone being hurt. We admire the passion of Gottlieb as he obviously cares and wants to win. He clearly tried to keep his outburst out of public view. Next time, however, he might have to go a little further down the tunnel before doing anything drastic.

Allen led Green Bay with 20 points in 34 minutes. Green Bay fell to 4-6 on the season, but there's a lot of season left.
