Nets defense breaks down in embarrassing fashion vs. Hawks (Video)

Jalen Johnson sees wide open lane, Nets vs. Hawks, 3/12/2026

The Brooklyn Nets defense had an embarrassing breakdown that gave the Atlanta Hawks one of the easiest buckets of all time during Thursday night's NBA game in State Farm Arena.

It happened with just over four minutes left in the first quarter after the Nets scored a basket to cut the Hawks lead to 21-14. Hawks forward Jalen Johnson took the inbounds pass and dribbled across halfcourt with the Nets playing man defense. As Hawks guard Gabe Vincent crossed behind Nets forward Danny Wolf towards the sideline, Wolf went with him even though Vincent was already being covered by Tyson Ettiene.

That left the key wide open, and Johnson took advantage of the opportunity to drive towards the basket and throw down the one-handed slam.

The Nets immediately called a time out, which was clearly needed as they were not on the same page.

Last year, Hawks forward Zaccharrie Risacher hit three consecutive 3-pointers from the same spot on the floor last year against Charlotte. Must be something about the way they play that throws off their opponents...or maybe they just know how to beat bad teams.

Johnson led the Hawks with 21 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists as they beat the Nets 108-97.
