Golden State Valkyries guard Kaitlyn Chen scored a basket with the help of an accidental screen set by an official during Sunday night's WNBA game at the Chase Center.
It happened with about 8:30 remaining in the second quarter with the Valkyries leading 24-18. Chen was bringing the ball up the court on offense with Liberty guard Rebekah Gardner defending her. WNBA official Kevin Fahy was standing just across halfcourt facing Chen. Fahy moved to his right just as Chen began to make a move to her left. As a result, Gardner was accidentally screened by Fahy, allowing Chen to break free and navigate through the Liberty defense for an open turnaround jump shot for the basket.

We have seen fluky plays in other sports where a referee accidentally sets up a team with a scoring opportunity. We're pretty sure Fahy was not deliberately trying to set a pick for Chen in this case. Hopefully Fahy can keep himself out of awkward positions like this moving forward.
Chen finished with 8 points in 13 minutes as the Valkyries beat the Liberty 76-67 for their third straight win.
