The American flag came off its pole and fell to the ground during the 2012 Olympics medal presentation for the women's tennis singles event on Saturday at Centre Court at Wimbledon, where Serena Williams won the gold medal for the U.S.
It was pretty windy while the "Star-Spangled Banner" was playing, which likely contributed to the American flag coming off the pole. Ironically, it occurred at the point of the National Anthem right after the point where the words "that our flag was still there" would have been sung. Incredibly bad timing, to say the least.
It could have been worse, though. At least the correct flag was being displayed.
