Cardinals bat boys nearly hit by Gregor Blanco's broken bat (Video)

San Francisco Giants left fielder Gregor Blanco's broken bat nearly hit two St. Louis Cardinals bat boys during Wednesday night's NLDS Game 3 at Busch Stadium.

It happened in the sixth inning as Blanco fouled off a 3-1 pitch. The bat broke near the handle, and the barrel of the bat went flying towards the right side of the backstop. The bat hit the short brick wall less than two feet from where the Cardinals bat boys were sitting.

This brings up an interesting question: How are these Cardinals ball boys allowed to sit that close to home plate, completely in harms way, with no protection? This incident illustrates how this is a really, really bad idea that needs to be addressed immediately, as even the players in the dugouts are protected by railings. These boys were fortunate that they were not seriously hurt.
