Angels pitcher Matt Oye ordered to get nails done on pitcher's mound (Video)

Matt Oye white substanceIn a most unusual occurrence rarely seen during a baseball game, Los Angeles Angeles pitcher Matt Oye was ordered by home plate umpire Tim McClellan to get his nails done while on the pitcher's mound during Wednesday's spring training game.

As Oye was warming up, a white shiny substance (possibly a nail polish) on the fingernail of the middle finger on his right hand drew the attention of McClellan, who obviously thought it could be a distraction to upcoming batters. McClellan went out to the mound and ordered Oye to have the white substance covered up, so one of the Angels athletic trainers had to come out to the mound with a black Sharpie and colored Oye's fingernail black.

That seemed to be enough to make McClellan happy and resolve the issue. However, the obvious questions that need more explanation remain. What was the white shiny substance on Oye's fingernail, and why was Oye wearing it?
