Luis Robert misplays pop fly, ball bounces off his head, White Sox vs Angels 4/3/2021

Chicago White Sox center fielder Luis Robert suffered an embarrassing (and probably painful) mishap during Saturday night's game against the L.A. Angels when he misplayed a pop fly that bounced off his head.

It happened in the bottom of the third inning with two outs and an Angels runner on first as the White Sox held a 1-0 lead. Angels batter Anthony Rendon hit a pop fly to short center field which looked like it would end the inning. White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson was called off by Robert as he came in from center field to grab it. However, things came off the rails for the White Sox as Rendon adjusted his path to the ball at the last second and somehow missed it. The ball bounced off Robert's head and towards right field.

As right fielder Adam Eaton picked up the ball, Angels runner David Fletcher rounded third and headed home. Eaton's throw to the plate hit the pitcher's mound and bounced over catcher Zack Collins' head and towards the backstop, allowing Rendon to reach second easily.

Robert and Eaton were both charged with errors on the play. Rendon came around to score as the next Angels batter hit a single to knock him home, giving the Angels a 2-1 lead.

Robert was not seriously hurt and stayed in the game, batting 2-for-4 with an RBI. However, his misplay was costly as the Angels beat the White Sox 5-3.  Just goes to show that major leaguers have tough days in the field, too.
