Hank Conger's throw to second sails sky-high (Video)

To say that Los Angeles Angels backup catcher Hank Conger's attempt to catch Oakland A's runner Craig Gentry stealing second failed miserably during the eighth inning of Saturday night's game would be a mild understatement.

Conger appeared to have a problem with his grip on the ball as he made the throw, sending the ball sailing sky-high over the bag and into center field. It's possible that Conger set a record for highest overthrow of second base by a catcher, if they keep a statistic for that somewhere.

Gentry could have made it to third easily if it weren't for some amazing acting by Angels shortstop Erick Aybar, who went through the motions of catching Conger's "perfect" throw and tagging Gentry as he slid into second.

Naturally, the throw by Conger left Angels manager Mike Scioscia shaking his head. On the other hand, maybe the Angels have another option in the outfield.
