Omer Asik tips ball into own basket at buzzer, Spurs beat Pelicans in OT (Video)

New Orleans Pelicans center Omer Asik could have used a do-over after accidentally tipping the ball into his own basket at the buzzer to end regulation Wednesday night which helped the San Antonio Spurs tie the game at 84 apiece.

It happened on a Spurs inbounds play with 0.7 seconds left as Boris Diaw tried to pass it to Tim Duncan near the basket to get the last shot off before the buzzer. Asik defended Duncan as he made a move to the basket and was in perfect position to knock the ball away as the pass was thrown in. Unbelievably, however, Asik knocked the ball right into his own net.

Duncan was credited with the basket even though video appears to show that he never touched the ball on the play.
"Sure", Duncan replied after the game when asked if he got his hand on the ball. "That's my answer and I'm sticking with it."
As it turned out, the Spurs went on to win the game in overtime 95-93, proving once again that sometimes it's better to be lucky than good.
