Giants bench coach signals for wrong pitcher (Video)

Giants manager Bruce Bochy was ejected in the fifth inning of Sunday night's game against Washington, leaving bench coach Ron Wotus to take over managerial duties for the remainder of the game. Normally things go smoothly, but Wotus had a bit of a hiccup when he accidentally signaled for the wrong pitcher out of the bullpen while making a pitching change.

In the sixth inning with one out and the game tied at 1-1, right-handed reliever George Kontos warming up in the bullpen. Wotus made the signal for a lefty before quickly correcting himself and calling for the righty.

Luckily, Kontos was the only pitcher warming up, so there was no confusion from his standpoint, and the Giants avoided an extremely embarrassing situation.

Unfortunately for the Giants, the move backfired as Kontos gave up a home run to the first batter he faced, and he ended up taking the loss. The Nationals beat the Giants 3-1.
