White Sox hold Speed Pitch Challenge for fans (Video)

White Sox Speed Pitch Challenge winner Tom Petermann

While the Chicago White Sox pitchers and catchers were reporting to spring training in Phoenix, Arizona, their fans were heading to their home stadium in Chicago for the Speed Pitch Challenge.

The White Sox fans lined up in the bullpen at Guaranteed Rate Field, with each contestant getting two chances to see who could throw the fastest pitch. Despite the temperature being under 20 degrees, the fans seemed to have a good time.

An extra throw was given to the two contestants who tied for the fastest throw at 76 mph. The pitch-off was won by Tom Petermann, who just barely beat Andy Gertonson 73-72.

Petermann won the Speed Pitch Challenge prize of a free trip to White Sox spring training. As luck would have it, Petermann was already going to Phoenix to see the Sox, but with the extra ticket, he planned to take his dad with him. Now that's pretty cool.
