2020’s Super Bowl is just around the corner. Excitement is mounting as fans gear up for the game which will be held on 2nd February this year. Fans who haven’t been able to get a ticket for the iconic event are already planning where to watch the game, but there are some people who aren’t satisfied with watching at home or at a sports bar. In fact a recent survey among NFL fans showed the lengths they were prepared to go to in order to secure a chance to see their favorite team live in action at the event of the year.

For many NFL fans, their love of the sport goes far beyond simply placing casual Super Bowl bets or enjoying the game over a few drinks at their local bar. A huge number of the 3200 people surveyed by Ticketmaster at the end of 2019 revealed that they would do some pretty extreme things to indulge their passion for football.

Won The Lottery? Buy A Season Ticket!

At the beginning of 2019, Ticketmaster surveyed 2000 NFL fans about their love of the game and found some fascinating facts. 84% of the survey respondents said they’d drop everything if they were given the chance to watch their team playing live and 41% watched every single game every season. Amazingly the passion for football runs so deep that a quarter of fans have skipped a birthday party to attend a game, while a fifth ditched a date to watch their team play. 10% even missed their child’s recital to catch a game. However, the survey from 2019’s last two weeks shows even more dramatic results. Almost half of the surveyed fans said their first purchase after striking it rich would be to buy a season ticket. Hardly surprising when it turns out that 15% have actually split with a partner due to different football allegiances.

Sacrifices For The Super Bowl

It goes without saying that avid fans would go to the most extreme lengths to see their favorite team playing live in the Super Bowl. After all, Super Bowl tickets aren’t easy to find and if you check out resale sites you’ll see that some are changing hands for over $10,000! With several weeks to still go before February 2nd’s Super Bowl in Miami prices are standing at over $36,000 for the prime seats. So, what exactly would fans give up for the opportunity to snag one of those coveted tickets?

35% of fans said they would be happy to stop drinking alcohol for a full year if they could go to see their favorite team in the Super Bowl, while an amazing 14% (and 17% of women) were prepared to abstain from sex for the entire 12 months. That may be extreme, but both of those pale into insignificance when you bear in mind that 7% were prepared to leave their significant other or even donate their kidney. Now that’s a serious commitment to the sport!
