Super Bowl Ad Preview: Uber One ft. Diddy, Montell Jordan, Haddaway, Ylvis

Diddy stars in Uber One Super Bowl LVII commercial
Rap mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs headlines a cast of hip hop and pop artists starring in an upcoming Super Bowl LVII commercial promoting "Uber One", a monthly membership plan for Uber and Uber Eats.

This year, companies are paying $7 million for 30-second ads during Sunday's airing of the Super Bowl on FOX. The ad for Uber One is a full minute, and then they had to pay all of the artists starring in it. Although these artists may be considered to be past their prime, they don't work for free.

The new commercial was released online Tuesday. In the ad, Uber asks Diddy for help in writing a jingle for Uber One. Diddy "doesn't do jingles", but he does crank out hit songs (or at least he used to). This time around, he invites some artists to the studio to tweak the original lyrics of their hit songs in order to promote Uber One.

The artists include Montell Jordan ("This is How We Do It"), Donna Lewis ("I Love You Always Forever"), Kelis ("Milkshake"), and viral comedy duo Ylvis ("What Does The Fox Say?"). Ultimately, Diddy settles on Haddaway's reworked "What Is Love" as the basis of the new "Uber One" jingle.

The song "What Is Love" is best known as the song that plays in the background while Will Ferrell and Chris Kattan dance around at the Roxbury club in their classic SNL sketches and the movie "A Night at the Roxbury".

There are several Super Bowl commercials featuring rock stars this year, so good for them. They have to make that money while they still can, and maybe this will open up some new doors for them.
