Shohei Ohtani knocks out bulb in Mets scoreboard (Video)

Citi Field scoreboard jokes with Shohei Ohtani, Angels vs. Mets, 8/26/2023

Los Angeles Angels superstar Shohei Ohtani knocked out a bulb in one of the scoreboards at Citi Field during Saturday's game against the New York Mets.

It happened in the top of the first with one out, nobody on and the game still scoreless. On the 2-1 pitch, Ohtani hit a high fly ball down the right field line that curved a few feet foul. It hit the top of the scoreboard just below the upper deck seats, and a small section of the scoreboard went black.

The scoreboard was posting an ad for Coors Light at the time, and SNY broadcaster (and former Met) Keith Hernandez quickly joked "That Coors is very light now."

The scoreboard operators used the opportunity to display a sense of humor, as before the next pitch was thrown, they posted a message on the main scoreboard in center field: "We're sending you the bill for that, Shohei"

We highly doubt that Ohtani will actually get the bill for this, as there is probably some money built into the Mets team budget for this sort of thing. Besides, Mets owner Steve Cohen could probably cover the cost of the replacement bulbs with his pocket change.

Ohtani would go on to double in that at-bat and come around to score on a Brandon Drury single. In the second inning, Ohtani hit a triple (knocking in a run) and came around to score again. He finished 2-for-3 with 2 walks and 2 stolen bases to help the Angels beat the Mets 5-3.
