A's catcher Jhonny Pereda struck out Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani during Thursday's MLB game at Dodger Stadium.
Pereda was brought in to pitch the eighth inning with the Dodgers leading 16-2. After giving up a run on two singles and a ground rule double, Ohtani came up to the plate. After getting the count to 1-2 on a series of changeups and sliders that were all under 70 mph, Pereda surprised Ohtani with an 89 mph fastball high in the strike zone. Ohtani swung and missed, surprising everyone.

Ohtani is used to hitting home runs so far they hit the scoreboard, but couldn't handle a fastball from a catcher. Go figure.
Pereda gave up two more runs as the Dodgers won the game 19-2, but Pereda will always have that strikeout on Ohtani to fall back on, and he will be keeping that ball.
