Umpire Bill Miller drops F-bomb after replay overturns incorrect call, caught on hot mic (Video)

Home plate umpire Bill Miller announces overturned call, Twins vs. Red Sox, 5/2/2025

Home plate umpire Bill Miller dropped an F-bomb while cursing himself out, and was caught on a hot mic doing it, after a replay review overturned his call on a play at home plate during Friday night's MLB game at Fenway Park between the Boston Red Sox and visiting Minnesota Twins.

It happened in the bottom of the eighth with two outs and Jarren Duran on first as the Red Sox led 6-1. Red Sox batter Rafael Devers hit a single to center field. Duran tried to score and it was a close play at the plate as he tried to slide around the tag of Twins catcher Ryan Jeffers. Miller called Duran safe at home, but the replay showed that Jeffers tagged Duran just before he touched the plate.

Miller had to announce the overturned call to the crowd, which resulted in Duran being the third out to end the inning. After the announcement, but with the mic still on, fans in the park and viewers at home were treated to a very loud F-bomb on behalf of Miller.

We have heard plenty of F-bombs from pro athletes, especially on the golf course. However, sometimes they happen on the air from people you wouldn't expect, like a Tour de France broadcaster. In this case, Miller was beating himself up for the bad call and clearly thought the mic was off. He will have to be more careful next time, but shouldn't be too hard on himself for the missed call. At least it was a play that could be corrected by replay review, which is all you can ask for.

The Red Sox beat the Twins 6-1, handing the Twins their fourth straight loss.
