A Georgia high school has just opened a new $62 million stadium which looks as nice, if not nicer, than stadiums for some NCAA college football programs.
In addition to a capacity of 10,000 seats, the new Dexter Wood Field at Phillip Beard Stadium, located at Buford High School (about an hour northeast of Atlanta) features 15 luxury suites, a 3500 square foot scoreboard and a two-story fieldhouse with locker rooms. The field was dedicated to Wood, who coached the Buford Wolves to three state championships, and the concourse of the stadium proudly displays the program's trophies.

This is an incredible amount of money to be spent on a high school football stadium, but the local community clearly supports their high school athletic programs. We appreciate that Buford has kelly green as its primary school color so there was no temptation to have the turf of Dexter Wood Field be red, orange, or some other blindingly bright color.
The opening game in Phillip Beard Stadium will be played on Thursday, August 14th at 7pm against Milton High School, the defending GSHA Class 5A state champions. The game will be nationally televised on ESPN.
