John Kruk throws shade at Angel Reese during Phillies-White Sox game (Video)

Angel Reese

Philadelphia Phillies color analyst (and former legendary player) John Kruk threw some shade at Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese during Tuesday night's game against the Chicago White Sox.

It happened in the top of the sixth inning with one out and nobody on as the Phillies held a comfortable 6-0 lead. With Max Kepler at the plate, Phillies play-by-play man Tom McCarthy wished a happy birthday to the wife of his high school basketball teammate. McCarthy's teammate was a center who went on to play college ball for Rider and Monmouth, and McCarthy joked that it was because he cleaned up all the shots that McCarthy would miss. This led Kruk to throw his shade at Reese without mentioning her by name.

McCarthy: "...I missed a lot of shots and he cleaned them up..."
Kruk: "Don't want to say anything, but there's someone here in Chicago that does that a lot."
McCarthy: "That is true...Well, she gets her points."
Kruk: "She gets her rebounds, too...We'll be getting some tweets about that, I'm sure..."

Hey, funny is funny. If Reese wants to tamp down on the criticism, she should work on making her layups. In her two seasons in the WNBA, she has missed a high number of shots close to the basket and then grabbed the rebounds on her own missed shots, which effectively helps to pad her rebound stats. At one point during her rookie season, the only way to stop her from getting her double-double was to quadruple-team her. To her credit, Reese has capitalized on the criticism by filing the name "Mebounds" as a trademark which she will use for T-shirts and other apparrel.

As far as the Phillies game, the White Sox tried to rally with a few runs late, but came up short as the Phillies won the game 6-3.
