Fever-Lynx game interrupted by mop head left on court (Video)

Mop head left on court, Fever vs. Lynx, 8/24/2025

Sunday's WNBA game between the Minnesota Lynx and visiting Indiana Fever was briefly interrupted by a mop head that was left behind by a mop boy.

It happened with under five and a half minutes remaining in the fourth quarter with the Lynx holding an 86-75 lead. After a bad pass by Fever guard Shey Peddy was stolen by Lynx forward Natasha Collier, it looked as though she might have an easy fast break basket. However, Fever forward Natasha Howard caught up with her, forcing Collier to wait for her teammates to set up the offense.

Moments later, however, it became clear that there was a foreign object on the court. Apparently the mop head popped off the handle of the mop boy's mop near the edge of the key when he abandoned cleaning the court to make way for the fast break. The officials were forced to blow the whistle to stop play, and Lynx guard Courtney Williams tossed the mop head over the baseline where the mop boy took it away to reattach it.

This is not the first time we have mop boy troubles on a pro basketball court. It may look like an easy job, but you have to be ready to move out of the way on a moment's notice.

The Lynx went on to beat the Fever 97-84. They are in prime position to be the top seed in the WNBA playoffs.
