Jesus Lozardo ejected from game after being pulled (Video)

Jesus Lozardo chirps at umpire after being pulled, Phillies vs. Mets, 8/26/2025

Philadelphia Phillies starter Jesus Lozardo was ejected from Tuesday's game against the New York Mets for criticizing the home plate umpire on his way to the dugout after he was pulled from the game.

It happened in the bottom of the fifth inning after Lozardo gave up a run and loaded the bases with one out and the Phillies holding on to a 2-1 lead. Phillies manager Rob Thomson came to the mound to replace Lozardo with reliever Orion Kerkering.

On his way to the dugout, however, Lozado had some comments for home plate umpire Willie Traynor: "Wake the f*** up! This is the major leagues!" Traynor did not appreciate that and ejected him.

Thomson did not intervene, as there was no point since Lozardo was already headed to the locker room. You certainly don't see this every day. We have seen incidents where starters get ejected for criticizing the home plate umpire, and that can put some stress on the bullpen. This ejection did not impact the Phillies in any way, as Lozardo was already leaving the game, so if there is any time to criticize the home plate umpire and "get away with it", this would be it.

Lozardo finished with five strikeouts and three walks. He was also charged with four earned runs as Kerkering was unable to stop the Mets rally in the fifth as they took a 5-2 lead. The Phillies tied the game in the eighth to let Lozardo off the hook, but the Mets walked it off in the ninth to win the game 6-5.
