New York Yankees second baseman Jazz Chisholm made an inexcusably dumb mistake on the base path which resulted in getting doubled up during Saturday's game in Miami.
It happened in the top of the second inning with one out and Chisholm on first. Yankees batter Paul Goldschmidt hit a high popup to Marlins second baseman Xavier Edwards for the second out. For some inexplicable reason, after taking a few steps toward second, Chisholm just stood in the basepath and waited for Edwards to catch the ball before heading back to first. As a result, Edwards caught the ball and fired it to Eric Wagaman at first, beating the slide by Chisholm for the double play.

Michael Kay made the exasperated call on the play: "Edwards - fires to first...it's a double play! What was Chisholm thinking?...What is going on?"
That is the question. What was Chisholm thinking? Did he think Edwards was going to purposely drop the ball? If so, he would throw to second to get Chisholm out, but at least Goldschmidt would be on first with two outs. Was Chisholm purposely trying to prove he was fast enough to get back to the bag?
This continues a pattern of ridiculous baserunning mistakes by the Yankees in recent days. It's no wonder that the Yankees have struggled to keep pace with the Toronto Blue Jays in the American League East. At a certain point, manager Aaron Boone has to be held accountable.
Sure enough, the Yankees are losing again, with the Marlins holding a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth.
