Boston Red Sox catcher Carlos Narvaez accidentally hit a teammate in the on-deck circle with a flying bat during Wednesday night's Game 2 of their American League Wild Card playoff series in the Bronx against the New York Yankees.
It happened in the top of the eighth inning with two outs and nobody on as the score was tied at 3-3. On the 2-2 pitch, Narvaez swung and missed to end the inning, losing the grip on his bat in the process. The bat went flying towards Red Sox teammate Nate Eaton in the on-deck circle, hitting him in the back.

Over the years, we have seen bats go flying into the backstop netting, into foul territory, or into a dugout. It can be a very dangerous situation. Fortunately in this case, Eaton was OK and was able to field his position at third base for the bottom of the eighth inning.
Narvaez had a rough night at the plate, going 0-for-4 with two strikeouts. The Yankees broke the tie in the bottom of the eighth and won the game 4-3 to tie the series at 1-1.
