Phil Mickelson loses club head at Valero Texas Open (Video)

Phil Mickelson lost the club head on his 8-iron when it broke on his approach shot from the fairway bunker on the par-4 12th hold during Thursday's opening round of the Valero Texas Open.

The club appeared to break on impact, with the head bouncing along the ground and finding a resting place outside the bunker.  Not surprisingly, Mickelson's shot didn't go as planned and he had to settle for bogey on the hole.

Fortunately, however, Mickelson is still at even par through 16 holes.  Hopefully that provides plenty of time to get his equipment checked out.  It's not every day you see a club break like that.
