Phil Jagielka controversial slide tackle Everton vs Wolves

In Premier League action, Everton's Phil Jagielka was handed a red card for a controversial slide tackle late in the first half of Saturday's match against Wolverhampton.

Jagielka took down Wolves midfielder Diogo Jota while lunging for the ball after losing control of it on the Everton end outside the penalty area. Jagielka found himself having to quickly dive after the ball to deny Jota from a breakaway goal-scoring opportunity.

In our opinion, this looked like a yellow card. However, if Jagielka had taken better control of the ball, he wouldn't have gotten himself into that situation.

Doto was down for about two minutes as trainers tended to him before he was able to walk off under his own power.

The ejection reduced Everton down to 10 men for the rest of the match. However, they were able to hold the Wolves to a 2-2 draw in the season opener for both teams.
