Oscar Gonzales loses track of outs, commits embarrassing error

Cleveland Guardians RF Oscar Gonzales commits embarrassing blunder, Royals vs. Guardians, 5/30/2022

Cleveland Guardians right fielder Oscar Gonzales committed an embarrassing error as he lost track of the number of outs while playing the field during Monday's game against Kansas City.

It happened in the top of the sixth inning with one out and a runner on first as the Guardians led the Royals 3-1. Royals batter Salvador Perez hit a fly ball to deep right field that Gonzales caught on the warning track for the second out. Unfortunately, Gonzales thought it was the third out and tossed it to a fan in the stands, which allowed runner Andrew Benintendi to advance to third base from first.

Once Gonzales realized his mistake, he could not believe what he had done. Fortunately, Guardians pitcher Zach Plesac was able to bail out Gonzales by striking out the next Royals batter to end the inning. We're willing to bet Gonzales won't make that mistake again.

Gonzales did make up for his error a bit with his offense, as he went 2-for-4 and scored a run as the Guardians won the game 7-3.
