Victor Scott II knocks fly ball over outfield wall, Blue Jays vs. Cardinals, 6/9/2025

St. Louis Cardinals center fielder Victor Scott II misplayed a fly ball and assisted it over the outfield wall, resulting in a home run by Toronto Blue Jays catcher Alejandro Kirk during Monday's MLB game at Busch Stadium.

It happened as Kirk came up to leadoff the top of the eighth inning with the Blue Jays leading 2-0. With a 3-2 count, Kirk hit a fly ball to deep center field. Scott was on his horse running towards the warning track. Scott was turned to his left, but had to turn back to his right in an attempt to catch the ball. He touched the ball with the top of his glove, but not only was he unable to catch it, but he changed the trajectory of the ball enough to deflect it towards the top of the outfield wall, allowing it to bounce over the wall and gifting Kirk with a home run.

We have seen plenty of misplayed fly balls already this year. In this case, Scott had a difficult play to make, and it was bad luck that he knocked the ball over the outfield wall.

The Cardinals rallied with four runs in the bottom of the eighth to take the lead, but the Blue Jays scored a run in the ninth to tie it and another in the 10th inning to win the game 5-4.
