Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Dion Phaneuf crushed St. Louis Blues right winger T.J. Oshie with an open-ice hit just after a whistle during the second period of Saturday night's game at the Air Canada Centre.
Oshie was whistled an offsides as he received a pass just over the blue line in the offensive end, but it was too late for Phaneuf to hear it, as he had Oshie lined up and laid him out.
Phaneuf's hit was clean, but he did end up with a roughing penalty after Blues center David Backes came after him for the hit on Oshie.
Oshie was OK and got the last laugh, earning the No. 2 star for the game with a goal and an assist as the Blues dominated the Maple Leafs 6-1.
