Fan tries to block Eric Jones layup, Morehouse vs. Kentucky State, 2/19/2026

A bizarre moment occurred in the final minute of Thursday night's Division II SIAC conference men's basketball game between the Kentucky State Thorobreds and the visiting Morehouse Maroon Tigers.

Morehouse held a commanding 87-56 lead with a minute left in the game. After Kentucky State missed a jump shot, Morehouse forward Isaiah Jackson grabbed the rebound and passed it to the other end of the court, where teammate Eric Jones was ahead of the defense waiting for the ball. He was lined up for an uncontested fast break basket.

Or so he thought.

As Jones dribbled towards the basket for the layup, an unidentified fan in street clothes (presumably a Kentucky State student) ran onto the court from behind the baseline and tried to swat the ball away as the shot went up. The fan missed and the shot went in anyway, but players and coaches were in disbelief as the fan ran off the court and down a tunnel, presumably towards the exit.

We have seen some bizarre moments in college basketball over the years, including an Uber Eats driver delivery attempt and a dog interrupting a game to name just a few. We also saw a dog poop on the court during a halftime show a few years back. This incident certainly ranks up there, and raises concerns due to lack of security preparedness. Fortunately, the fan had no ill intentions of hurting the opposing player.

Morehead went on to score another basket before the buzzer to close out the 91-56 blowout victory.
