Springfield Cardinals fan soaked with beer as foul ball hits netting

Springfield Cardinals fan sprayed with beer vs. Northwest Arkansas, 4/9/2022

In Double-A minor league baseball action, a Springfield Cardinals fan in the front row behind home plate was soaked with beer after a foul ball knocked it off the ledge in front of him during Saturday's game against Northwest Arkansas.

It happened in the bottom of the first inning with two outs and runners on first and second. Cardinals batter Chandler Redmond hit the 0-1 pitch foul and the ball bounced into the backstop. The netting in front of the fan protected him from the ball. Unfortunately, the netting was unable to protect his cup of beer, which was sitting on the ledge against the net. The ball happened to hit that exact spot, resulting in the beer splashing all over his face.

Now that's just bad luck. Redmond couldn't hit that exact spot again if he tried a hundred times.

Redmond was able to get on base, and the Cardinals were able to score two runs in the first on the way to a 14-11 win over the Naturals.

As for the fan, he got a good chuckle out of it, giving a thumbs-up to the crowd as he cleaned himself off. Those beverages can be expensive at baseball games, so we don't expect him to make that mistake again.
