Just last week, we watched golfer Nicholas Thompson take off his shoes and roll up his pants to hit a shot from the edge of the water at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
During Sunday's European Tour event from Morocco (the Trophee Hassan II), Danish golfer Andreas Hartø found himself in a similar predicament on the 14th hole, and made the same decision to take a chip shot near the water rather than take a drop. However, Hartø took an extra step when preparing to take the shot: he completely took off his pants.
Hartø hit a pretty good chip shot that put him less than 15 feet from the hole, which we can honestly say is the best shot that we've seen by a pants-less pro golfer. Hartø finished the tournament in a tie for 15th place.

Seattle Mariners catcher Kelly Shoppach lost his bat during a swing and a miss in Friday's spring training game against the Chicago Cubs, sending his bat flying into the crowd where a fan picked up the bat in the aisle...and walked away with it.
The Mariners probably would have tried to make an effort to get Shoppach's bat back, but the fan never stopped walking, so they never had the chance.

A Saudi football player was given a red card for eye gouging his opponent during a Saudi Premier League match Friday.
Al-Ittihad's Ibrahim Hazazi chased a loose ball near the sideline and stuck his fingers in the eyes of the opposing Al Hilal player.
No word yet if a suspension for Hazizi is pending, but it would seem deserved in this case.

In a new commercial promoting the upcoming season, San Francisco Giants pitcher Sergio Romo is asked by a female fan what he would have been if he wasn't a professional pitcher.

A shirtless Chicago Cubs fan made an extra effort to keep cool during the late innings of Thursday's Chicago Cubs spring training game in Mesa, Arizona when he asked a beer vendor to pour a cup of ice water over his head.
After the initial shock, the fan appeared to feel pretty refreshed. We hope he gave that beer vendor a nice tip for the cold shower.

NFL linebacker Connor Barwin signed with the Philadelphia Eagles as a free agent this month, ending his tenure with the Houston Texans after four seasons. Barwin followed the custom of other recent NFL free agents by taking out a full page ad in the newspaper to say thanks to his former team and their fans. However, Barwin's ad takes an extra step by including an extensive, specific list of people (and things) to thank, including "Mohawk Steve", "Bread" and "Cheesecake".
Barwin's move to Philadelphia leaves us wondering what he will do with that cool Texans letterman jacket, as he obviously can't wear it anymore.
UPDATE: Barwin explained to USA Today's Robert Klemko that "Bread" refers to "random buddy of mine who I met down here in Houston", while "Cheesecake" is actually "a doorman at three or four different venues" in the city.

Earlier this week, NBA Hall of Fame coach Phil Jackson made his presence known on Twitter with a tweet that seemed to be impacted by a severe case of fat fingers. It's now become clear that we've all been duped, as his second tweet revealed that it was all a shameless plug for AOL.
Can't blame Jackson for taking the money, and the ad is amazingly clever on its own. However, we don't like being duped, and we hope this isn't a sign of things to come from his Twitter account.

Boston Bruins goaltender Tuukka Rask was pretty upset following Wednesday night's 6-5 loss to the Montreal Canadiens at the TD Garden. Rask took the loss hard after giving up the tying goal with 8.5 seconds left, then giving up the winning goal in the sixth round of the ensuing shootout.
Therefore, no one could blame Rask for losing it a little bit and wanting to smash his stick afterwards, but even that didn't work out so well. Not only did the stick stay in one piece, but Rask lost his balance and wiped out on the ice.
Overall, a bad ending to a bad day at the office for Rask.

Miami Heat superstar LeBron James was taken aback Wednesday night when a fan at the United Center leaned over a railing and tried to grab the headband off his head as LeBron walked into the tunnel back to the locker room after the Heat's 101-97 loss to the Bulls.
Come on, fans, show some respect for the players. You can't just grab stuff off their heads...or their backs. Where are the security personnel when you need them?
The loss ended a 27-game winning streak for the Heat, the second longest in NBA history.

On Tuesday night, Uruguay striker Luis Suarez got away with a cheap shot when he punched Chile defender Gonzalo Jara in the face as they were tangled up in the 33rd minute of the first half. No penalty was called on Suarez as the referees completely missed it, although cameras caught the incident clear as day.
Fortunately, Chile got the last laugh with a 2-0 victory.
Phil Jackson won 11 NBA championships during his NBA coaching career with the Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Lakers. Jackson reminded us of that fact Wednesday as he joined Twitter when he posted a picture of his championship rings as his avatar and referenced the 11 championship rings in his first tweet. At least, that's what we think the tweet was about.
Unfortunately, it looks like Jackson came down with a case of fat fingers:

With Opening Day around the corner, the Philadelphia Phillies are "Painting The Town Red", and the Philly Phanatic has "painted" himself red while making various public appearances on television and around the city all week. One of his stops Tuesday morning was on the set of "Good Day" Philadelphia, where he joined FOX 29 traffic reporter Kacie McDonnell on camera as she talked about the Phillies near the end of her segment.
McDonnell knew to expect the unexpected when the Phanatic showed up, but she probably wasn't expecting the Phanatic to move in for a smooch. After the surprise kiss, McDonnell joked "I guess I have a boyfriend now?"

Atlanta Hawks forward Kyle Korver and Indiana Pacers guard Orlando Johnson were both fouled on consecutive plays while making 3-point shots during Monday night's game at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. Boston Bruins assistant coach Geoff Ward took his earpiece off and tossed it over the glass during Monday night's game at TD Garden against the Toronto Maple Leafs. A Bruins fan in the front row behind the bench got a real surprise when that earpiece landed in their cup of beer.
Either that's incredible aim, or incredibly bad luck. Hopefully the Bruins make it up to the fan somehow, because there's no way he could take another sip of that beer, and beers at sporting events are expensive.
UPDATE: Ward is apparently off the hook, as Bruins center Tyler Seguin is now claiming it was his smelling salts that landed in the fan's beer. Still, someone on the Bruins bench owes this fan a replacement beer next time around.

It all played out just like it did in Miami back in January when LeBron James tackled a Miami Heat fan who made a half-court shot to win $75,000. In fact, Dougherty admitted watching the LeBron footage and told his girlfriend that he was hoping to be tackled by Durant or Russell Westbrook. KD came through and made Dougherty's night.

Golfer Nicholas Thompson's tee shot on the par-3 17th hold landed on the edge of the water during Saturday's third round of the Arnold Palmer Invitational tournament in Orlando. Thompson could have taken a drop, but instead he made the bold call to take off his shoes and socks, roll up his pants, and wade ankle-deep into the water to take the shot right there.
In the end, Thompson made the right decision, as he pulled off an amazing shot that landed less than a foot from the cup and allowed him to save par.
Thompson probably wonders what might have been if he had that kind of luck during the entire round, as he shot a disappointing 3-over on the day to put him at +5 overall for the tournament.

A soccer goalkeeper who moves up on a corner kick needs to be confident that things will go right. Otherwise, they could look really silly while scrambling to get back into position as their opponents drive down the field with an open net.
With that in mind, this unidentified goalkeeper may be the luckiest man in the world. What were the chances of a conveniently placed motorcycle sitting there with someone waiting to give him a ride back to his own net?
Unfortunately we don't have the full context of when or where this game was played, but regardless, this goalkeeper owes that rider big time.

Vancouver Canucks defenseman Alex Edler ran over Phoenix Coyotes goalie Mike Smith behind the Coyotes net during the second period of Thursday night's game at the Jobing.com Arena, igniting a brawl between the two teams.
Edler skated full speed behind the Coyotes net to chase the puck. When Smith got to it first, Edler made no attempt to slow down or get the puck and simply plowed over him.
Edler was assessed a five minute major penalty for charging on the play, and Coyotes center Martin Hanzal was assessed two minutes for roughing on the ensuing brawl. Smith finished out the period but sat out the third.
To add insult to injury, Edler recorded an assist on the game-winning goal in the third period against Coyotes backup goalie Jason LaBarbera to give the Canucks a 2-1 victory. We'll see if Edler escapes further punishment from the NHL when the play is reviewed by the league office.

Yesterday, we broke the news that Washington Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper received a card from Chipotle Mexican Grill entitling him to "free burritos for life", based on a tweet that Harper sent out yesterday.
Well, the story was partially true. Harper did receive the card from Chipotle which entitles him to free burritos, but according to a Chipotle representative, the card is only good for a year.
Why did Harper think the card is good for life? We're willing to give Harper the benefit of the doubt for the mixup, so we'll wait for him to respond before commenting further.
In a most unusual occurrence rarely seen during a baseball game, Los Angeles Angeles pitcher Matt Oye was ordered by home plate umpire Tim McClellan to get his nails done while on the pitcher's mound during Wednesday's spring training game.
As Oye was warming up, a white shiny substance (possibly a nail polish) on the fingernail of the middle finger on his right hand drew the attention of McClellan, who obviously thought it could be a distraction to upcoming batters. McClellan went out to the mound and ordered Oye to have the white substance covered up, so one of the Angels athletic trainers had to come out to the mound with a black Sharpie and colored Oye's fingernail black.
That seemed to be enough to make McClellan happy and resolve the issue. However, the obvious questions that need more explanation remain. What was the white shiny substance on Oye's fingernail, and why was Oye wearing it?

Los Angeles Clippers point guard Chris Paul may excel with many skills on the basketball court, but he does not excel at flopping. Case in point: During Tuesday night's game against the Sacramento Kings, Chris Paul made a desperate flop attempt to draw a foul against Kings center DeMarcus Cousins.
Cousins was beginning to head back up the court on offense when Paul nudged into him, then threw himself backwards as if he was pushed. No foul was called on Cousins, but if there was, this play most certainly would have been worthy of CP3 getting a warning from the NBA for embellishment. At the very least, it's worthy of a Razzie award nomination for bad acting.
In the end, however, the Kings got the last laugh with a 116-101 victory.

A Hooters employee who served as a Philadelphia Phillies ballgirl was nearly run over by New York Yankees infielder Ronnier Mustelier when she tried to duck for cover on a foul popup, instead of getting out of the way, during Tuesday's spring training game in Clearwater, Florida.
The Hooters ballgirl wouldn't get out of her chair, despite the ball coming dangerously close to landing right on her head. Not to mention Mustelier and two other Yankee fielders chasing the ball at full speed while running in her direction, which could have resulted in a dangerous collision.
Fortunately there was no interference and no injuries in this incident, and it is spring training for everyone involved. However, the arrangement that allows Hooters employees to be ballgirls at Phillies spring training games is looking more precarious by the day. Just was over a week ago, another Hooters ballgirl mistakenly scooped up a fair ball and gave it to a fan.
If this arrangement is to continue in the future, the Phillies need to do a better job in making sure the Hooters ballgirls understand the rules.

Nashville Predators forward Sergei Kostitsyn took the most inopportune time to head to the bench for a line change during Sunday's game, and his team paid for it as the Edmonton Oilers scored a short-handed goal that made the difference in the game.
During a Predators power play in the third period, Kostitsyn mishandled a pass and allowed the puck to travel outside the blue line into the neutral zone. Kostitsyn was then outraced to the puck by Oilers center Sam Gagner, but instead of continuing to chase the play, Kostitsyn immediately gave up and skated to the bench for a change.
The move by Kostitsyn left Predators defenseman Shea Weber and goalie Pekka Rinne hanging out to dry as Gagner and Oilers center Lennart Petrell had a 2-on-1 breakaway. Gagner passed to Petrell for the score to put the Oilers up 2-1, and the Oilers eventually won the game 3-2.
After the game, Kostitsyn admitted to Josh Cooper of The Tennessean that he blew it:
I made a mistake. I went to change, I should have backchecked, but didn’t see the second guy was coming there.Hopefully Kostitsyn has learned a valuable lesson from this and steps up the next time around.

In NCAA lacrosse Wednesday, Duke defenseman Chris Hipps delivered an unbelievably vicious slash to the groin of North Carolina attackman Jimmy Bitter.
Hipps wound up and swung his stick directly in Bitter's crotch. Bitter had to be taken off the field to recover and was likely bitter afterwards.
To top it all off, Duke defeated UNC 11-8. As if there aren't enough reasons for UNC to hate Duke.

On Saturday, a bride and groom who had just got married earlier in the day attended the Big 12 Championship game in Kansas City to watch their Kansas Jayhawks take on the Kansas State Wildcats...while still wearing their wedding outfits.
Eric and Faith Devault received a gift of prime seats for the basketball game, just a few rows behind the Kansas bench, and they watched the game in their tuxedo and bridal gown. Kansas beat Kansas State 70-54, which gave the happy couple even more to celebrate on their wedding night.
Miami Heat center Chris Bosh has been known to be the master videobomber, but during a postgame interview after Friday night's game, Bosh was the victim to a videobomb from superstar teammate LeBron James.
After Bosh bombed LeBron earlier this season, LeBron got his revenge Friday night as Bosh was in the middle of a postgame interview. LeBron walked behind Bosh as did a rotating version of the robot dance, prompting Bosh to break into a little dance himself.
LeBron and Bosh had reason to be in a good mood, as they had just beat the Milwaukee Bucks to extend their winning streak to 21 straight games.

Shaw and Calvert each got five minutes for fighting. The Blackhawks won in a shootout 2-1.

In a new commercial promoting ticket plans for the Oakland A's, bench coach Chip Hale discusses how the team is looking to pick things up a notch this season with their walk-off celebrations.
With players giving each other a pie to the face after walk-off wins last year, the A's are experimenting with alternatives such as pizza, tuna casserole and honeybaked ham. Something tells me that they'll stick with the pies for now.

Independiente Limeira defender Johnny dos Santos karate kicked referee Mauricio Antonio Fioretti immediately after his team's 1-0 loss to Marilia in a Paulista A3 soccer match from Brazil last Saturday night.
Dos Santos was apparently upset that only four minutes of stoppage time were added to the end of the second half and his team was not able to score an equalizer. Once the game was over, Dos Santos jogged over to Fioretti and delivered the kick to Fioretti's shoulder and arm.
Dos Santos had to be removed from the pitch by police. We expect that news of a suspension of some sort for Dos Santos will be forthcoming.

Columbus Blue Jackets center Vinny Prospal was given a ten minute misconduct penalty in the third period of Saturday night's game against the Detroit Red Wings, possibly for taunting them by pointing at the scoreboard.
It happened with 5:54 left and the Blue Jackets leading 3-0. Prospal was jawing with Red Wings forward Justin Abdelkader, and Prospal pointed at the scoreboard as referees separated them.
So let's get this straight: A player who knocks out an opponent in a fight only gets five minutes in the penalty box, but a player who points at the scoreboard gets ten minutes? Does that make sense to anyone?

Yann Danis replaced Dubnyk in goal, but didn't fare much better, giving up four goals as the Predators pounded the Oilers 6-0.

A Hooters employee who served as a ballgirl at Saturday's Philadelphia Phillies game was pretty embarrassed after realizing that the ball she scooped up and gave to a fan was a fair ball that was still in play.
On the bright side, the Hooters ballgirl made a young fan very happy when she tossed him the ball, so her heart was in the right place. And it is spring training, after all.
